Wayne High Schools Alumni Association

A Brief History

This Association first emerged informally in the late 1890’s and flourished on and off through the years until the start of World War II.

The Class of 1931 met to plan the anniversary party for their 50th year graduation from Wayne High.  When the Alumni Association, as we know it today, was formed in 1984, it was suggested by Jean Balmes Procter, Class of 1942, that an All Class Reunion Banquet be held to honor the Class that was observing their 50th anniversary of graduation.  And that basically is how this wonderful tradition began!

The first President was Forrest Keown, followed by Charles Madigan, Tom Sullivan, Floyd LeSuer, James Doletzky, Lloyd Solarz, Joanne Wallace Johnson, Kenneth Reimann,  Frank McMurray, Tillie Miller Van Sickle and Terri Grzecki.

The Association awarded its first scholarship of $500 per year for four years to Nancy Kwilas in 1986. In 1997 the Scholarship Award was increased to $1,000 per year.  In 2001 two $1,000 Scholarship Awards were granted.  In 2008 the Scholarship Award was increased to $1500 per year; renewable for 3 years.  To date -  $86,500 has been awarded to Wayne Memorial High School graduates.
